Appreciate your help.

FYI:  I just learned that among these 2 users, 1 user is using Mac  iPAD.    ....  I suspect it has to do with compatibility problem / ASCII coding / browser setting  e.g.  allow  Javascript / script  etc.

A1. Username for w******9@gmail.com is incorrect, the username is same as his gmail username.

for Q1, I've asked user to reconfirm his email address.  He said his email = w****gmail.com
  that's all I can tell u.

for Q2, user said that when he clicked on the link & proceed, the system said  "wrong parameter.  Click here to return to previous page".  This user uses iPad.

The corrected username and email address I did told you, just tell him to get the password by clicking the "Forgot Password" and enter the correct username and email address to retrieve the password.

Anyway the email maybe inside the Social, Updates or Forum tab in Gmail.
